Providers have the option to refer patients to the TBI Outpatient Program or the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). See below for program-specific referral directions.

TBI Outpatient Program

The National Intrepid Center of Excellence's (NICoE) Referral Management Team will determine appropriate candidates for the TBI Outpatient Program upon reviewing referrals.

• Within the National Capital Region: Provider referrals may be entered directly into the Composite Health Care System (CHCS).
• Outside of the National Capital Region: For information about referrals to any NICoE program, the primary care provider should email: dha.bethesda.wrnmmc.list.wrnm-nicoe-referral@health.mil. A member of our Referral Management Team will contact you to follow up on your request.

TBI Service Outpatient Eligibility

Must meet the following criteria:

• Department of Defense beneficiaries 18 and older diagnosed with a TBI
• Active referral from current primary care manager

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

• Primary care providers interested in referring a patient must:
  1. Access the TBI IOP referral system
  2. Submit a digital referral by completing all the required information

IOP Eligibility

• IOP patients must meet the following criteria:
  • Active Duty Service Member
  • Must have care established with primary care manager
  • Must have completed comprehensive behavioral health evaluation within 30 days prior to application submission
  • Diagnosed mild to moderate TBI and/or associated health conditions who have not responded to traditional treatment
