Patient Safety Professional Course

The Patient Safety Professional Course is a practical, actionable curriculum conducted virtually in nine half-day sessions. It was designed by the Department of Defense Patient Safety Program for new Patient Safety Managers and other Patient Safety Professionals in military treatment facilities who have been in their role for fewer than twelve months.

As a patient safety professional, your role is to collaborate with staff, leadership, and other patient safety, quality, and process improvement personnel to promote a culture of safety. This includes activities such as analyzing and identifying trends from adverse event reports; supporting educational programs in patient safety; helping spread leading practices from adverse events; and developing, implementing, and evaluating patient safety initiatives.

The PSPC is a highly interactive course that consists of:

  • Engaging learning modules
  • Discussions with instructors, facilitators, and other participants
  • CSA Training Capstone project
  • Networking opportunities during and following the course
  • Coaching and mentoring

The course is divided into segments: PSPC Pre-Work, PSPC Core Content, Comprehensive Systematic Analysis Training Pre-Work, and CSA Core Content. It is fully accredited through the Postgraduate Institute for Medicine with continuing education credits available.
