Executive Director, National Capital Consortium
Dr. Jerri Curtis serves as the Designated Institutional Official and Executive Director for the National Capital Consortium, overseeing the training of over 700 U.S. military officers in 52 Graduate Medical Education, one Dental and six Allied Health Programs. The DIO is responsible for the accreditation of the Institution and all the programs that the NCC sponsors. The NCC prepares its graduates to become the premiere platform of expert clinicians trained in the scope of practice required to support the healthcare needs of military operational forces and humanitarian missions. As a practicing physician, Dr. Curtis is Board Certified in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
Dr. Curtis graduated from the University of Florida in 1980 with a B.S. in microbiology. She accepted an HPSP scholarship and graduated from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 1984. She began her pediatric residency at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth VA and her first duty assignment after residency was at Naval Hospital, Rota, Spain as a General Pediatrician. She received her fellowship training in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine from 1989–1992 at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
Dr. Curtis is a retired U.S. Navy Captain after 30 years of service. She served as the Program Director for the NCC Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship for eight years. She served as the Chair of the Institutional Review Board at the National Naval Medical Center (NNMC). She then served as the Director of Education and Research at the NNMC. She became the Surgeon Generals Specialty Leader for Neonatal - Perinatal Medicine. She then went on to become the U.S. Navy Director of GME. Before she retired from the U.S. Navy, she became the Associate Dean for GME at USUHS and also became the DIO and Ex Director of the NCC. In 2010 she was selected to serve on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Pediatric Residency Review Committee. In 1994, she deployed on the USNS Comfort to Haiti in support of “Operation Uphold Democracy” providing medical and humanitarian support to the Haitian people in a time when their government was in danger of being overthrown.
In 2018, Dr. Curtis was the recipient of the Parker J. Palmer Courage to Lead award from the ACGME. While on active duty she received the following awards: Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Medal, four Meritorious Medals, three Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medals. Winner of the Ogden Bruton Award sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics for basic science research 2003. Winner of the Leo Geppert Case Award sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics, 2023.
Dr. Curtis is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics; Member of the Pediatric Academic Society; Member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
