About Us

Naval Medical Center, Camp Lejeune was commissioned May 1, 1943, at Hospital Point, on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. In 1983, a new hospital was constructed and has expanded to the current footprint of today. The core facility hosts inpatient units, primary care, and specialty care. In addition, seven outlying Branch Medical Clinics, Intrepid Spirit, and the core facility provide support for all Navy and Marine Corps garrison and operational commands. On July 1, 2017, the hospital was designated as NMC Camp Lejeune, and on Feb. 28, 2018, NMC Camp Lejeune received verification as a Level III Trauma Center from the American College of Surgeons.

NMC Camp Lejeune is the sponsoring institution for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accredited Family Medicine and Psychiatry residency programs, and Sports Medicine fellowship. It is also the sponsoring institution for a Commission on Dental Accreditation program in Advanced Education in General Dentistry, clinical phase training for the Interservice Physician Assistant Program and Graduate nursing programs in Woman's Health, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesia, and Family Practice. The institution also serves as a participating site for ACGME accredited programs in Emergency Medicine and General Surgery and a clinical rotation site for multiple military health professions education programs.

The mission of the institution is to faithfully serve military and civilian communities through health care excellence, readiness, and professional development. We do this by developing specialty-trained physicians and health care professionals ready to support wartime and operational missions as directed by Service Departments and the Defense Health Agency. We support warfighters, their families, and the community by a commitment to the highest standards of excellence in health care and education, and by maintaining both a medically ready force and a ready medical force.

The Graduate Medical Education Committee and the Designated Institutional Official are charged with oversight of the Graduate Medical Education program. As a member of the institutional governing body, the Board of Directors, the DIO, who also serves as the Director for Professional Education and the GMEC, manage the program with input from each area of the institution.

The Commander, Executive Officer, Board of Directors, DPE/DIO, Academic Chairs, Program Directors, Ancillary Staff, and Faculty are committed to the education and training of military officers. This includes assuring the adequate provisions of administrative, educational, financial, human, and clinical resources to support our programs. Resources are allocated to ensure compliance with Department of Defense regulations, the ACGME Institutional and Program Specific requirements, and other accreditation and licensure bodies as required.

  • Address military unique and community health care disparities.
  • Leverage national and regional partnerships to maximize the learning environment.
  • Develop and mature telehealth opportunities for remote and low resource care environments.
