Corporal David L. Watson died on September 22, 2007. He served as a medic with the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, based at Fort Lewis, Washington. Watson died when he succumbed to non-combat-related injuries in Baqubah, a city northeast of Baghdad, Iraq. He touched so many lives that his funeral had to be held in a high school auditorium to accommo­date everyone. Hundreds came to pay their respects. He was buried with full military honors at New Hope Cemetery in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
