Nurses Week: Nurses Make a Difference: Anytime, Anywhere - Always

During National Nurses Week (May 6-12), the Defense Health Agency tells the story of military medicine through the lens of nurses working across military health care.

The 2023 Nurses Week theme “Nurses Make a Difference: Anytime, Anywhere – Always” honors the unwavering commitment of DHA nurses to their patients, and the value they provide to the unified health care team in accomplishing their medical readiness mission.

During Nurses Week, we will celebrate and share the stories of nurses across the DHA who are delivering world-class care every day.

Key Messages

  • Providing world-class nursing care to all our beneficiaries anytime, anywhere, always is a top priority of the Defense Health Agency.     
  • Nurses across the DHA are making a difference as they serve in leading roles to maintain military health and readiness and effect transformative changes in military medicine.
  • Nurses of all backgrounds, ranks, and roles are invaluable to the Defense Health Agency. Our diverse nursing team includes active duty service members of all ranks, Guard and Reserve members, civilians, and contractors, who are all essential to accomplishing the DHA mission.

A Nursing Journey: Saving Lives and Exploring the World One Adventure at a Time

U.S. Navy Lt. Claire Burke reaches the summit of Mount Fuji in Honshu, Japan, the tallest mountain in the country and of the highest peaks in the world. Although Burke’s journey has taken her to many ports, she always dreamed that one day she would have the privilege of working at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. “It’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced in my 11 years as a Navy nurse,” commented Burke, enjoying the opportunity to work with and mentor nurses from the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Air Force.
