Staff Sergeant Michael R. Hullender died April 28, 2007, when he stepped on a land mine while assisting a wounded Soldier in Iskandariyah, Iraq. The 29-year-old served as a Ranger and medic in the 1st Battalion, 501st Airborne Infantry Regiment, 4th Bri­gade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division out of Fort Richardson, Alaska, supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was buried with full military honors in Broadlawn Me­morial Gardens in Buford, Georgia.
