Mr. Don Johnson

DHA Assistant Director, Support/Component Acquisition Executive

Mr. Don Johnson official photoMr. Don Johnson serves as the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Assistant Director, Support/Component Acquisition Executive. In this role, he is responsible for all acquisition matters of the Agency with an annual acquisition and procurement spend of $2.3 billion. Responsibility includes support to the Military Health System (MHS) in the areas of public health, research and development, acquisition, medical logistics, contracting, and enlisted Service member medical training and education. 

Johnson entered the United States Air Force in 1985 after graduating from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. He also obtained a Master of Science Administration and Master of Business Administration from Georgia College. His acquisition, technology and logistics experience includes serving as a System Engineer, Warner Robins Air Logistics Agency; Chief Engineer, Air Force Space Command; Assistant Test Director, Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center; Program Manager, Hanscom Air Force Base; Program Director, Air Force Program Executive Officer; Acquisition Director, Office of the Secretary of Defense; Program Manager, Defense Health Agency; Acquisition Director, National Reconnaissance Office; and Program Manager, Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

Johnson currently serves as an adjunct professor for cybersecurity at the George Washington University, previously served as the client executive responsible for a major product line at the Sapient Corporation, and also played a key role in the acquisition that led to the MHS GENESIS program. This included serving as an advisor to the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition Technology and Logistics in the $4.4 billion contract award decision and then as the Program Manager for DHA Compute and Storage where he led infrastructure procurement actions, security accreditations, and the transition of the first hospital infrastructure to support the MHS GENESIS Initial Operational Capability decision.

Johnson is DAWIA Level 3 certified in Program Management and received the Office of the Secretary of Defense Outstanding Program Management of the Year Award, Air Force Duckworth Award, Vice Presidential Hammer Award, Under Secretary of Defense Excellence Award, Deputy Secretary of Defense Excellence Award, National Reconnaissance Office Innovation Award, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence Exceptional Service Award.
